Have you or your employees incurred fines or penalties whilst driving the company car?
If so, is it clear in your business who is responsible for the payment of the fine or penalty, because if it isn’t don’t get caught out with arguments with employees just because you don’t have a motor vehicle policy and procedure.
A few weeks ago, we talked about commercial vehicles and fringe benefits tax. If you missed the episode, you can find it here.
This week, we’re talking about fines and penalties and how to protect your business with a simple motor vehicle policy.
Who needs a Motor Vehicle Policy and Procedure?
Any business that has motor vehicles registered in the business name, and you have employees who drive those vehicles, it is important to have a Motor Vehicle Policy and Procedure.
What should a Motor Vehicle Policy and Procedure include?
It doesn’t have to be a big, cumbersome document. It just needs to outline:
- What is appropriate use
- Who is responsible for the payment of fines and penalties
- What is considered safe use of the vehicle – via a safe driving clause
- What your requirements are for personal use and business use
- What your requirements are for maintaining log books
Where do I start when it comes to writing a policy?
Well, we’ve started a template that you can use, tailor and update that you can download for free at the bottom of this post.
Or, you can start from scratch. 🙂
