In addition to the 6 most forgotten tax deductions above, as a Tradie (employee or contractor), you can generally claim:
1. Sunscreen and protective sunglasses
If you work predominately outside (it’s considered protective)
2. Training Courses / Certifications
Maintaining your trade, extending your trade qualifications are tax deductible (if paid for by yourself – rather than your employer).
3. Tools and Equipment
Again, if you buy tools and equipment for your trade (not your employer) these are deductible items as well.
4. Travel & Accommodation Expenses
Whilst travelling for work (or for training) – but remember, only if your employer hasn’t already reimbursed you.
